The South Yorkshire Pensions Authority has announced it will be reducing its average employer contribution rate from 19% to 13%.

This follows its new Funding Strategy Statement which showed that its funding levels improved from 119% to 142%.

The reduction means employer contributions are expected to be more than £90m lower compared to the previous three-year period, with the largest benefits seen by the four South Yorkshire authorities, alongside a wide range of other participating employers.

Gillian Taberner, director of the Authority, said: “These results are extremely positive and demonstrate the strength and resilience of the Fund. We have worked closely with our participating employers throughout the valuation process and the development of the funding strategy statement, and we are grateful for their input, feedback and constructive challenge.

“By reducing employer contribution rates at a time when budgets remain under pressure, we are helping local councils and other organisations continue to deliver vital services, while remaining firmly committed to the long-term sustainability and affordability of the fund.”
