Oxfordshire has appointed Mark Smith – head of the Oxfordshire Pension Fund – as its senior LGPS officer, following approval at a Pension Fund Committee meeting earlier this month.

In his new role, he’ll be responsible for providing strategic leadership for pension administration, governance, and investment functions, and for ensuring the fund is managed in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

His work as the senior LGPS officer at Oxfordshire will also see him support the Pension Fund Committee and Local Pension Board with professional advice and effective reporting, make sure fund has the people, processes, systems and resources needed to run effectively, and oversee high standards of service.

Finally, he’ll help to identify, manage and monitor key risks affecting the fund, and promote strong communication and accountability across the fund’s activities.

Administering authorities have until around the end of this year to appoint their senior LGPS officer, a requirement for all funds in the LGPS since the Fit for the Future reforms came into force.
