Surrey Pension Fund has confirmed the appointment of George Graham as the fund’s new independent person.

The independent person role was created as part of national reforms across the LGPS, with its function being to support pensions committees to make well-informed decisions and support the chair of the local pension board to promote good governance across the fund.

Reflecting on his new role, Graham said: “Surrey are leading the way within the LGPS in the creation of the first of the new generation of Single Purpose Authorities and I am looking forward to working with the fund’s officers and elected members to help them navigate this period of change while ensuring a continued focus on delivering outcomes for Scheme members and employers.”

Surrey’s LGPS senior officer Neil Mason added: “I look forward to working with George enormously. His leadership in the LGPS, as director of a Pensions Authority and as a key voice of Funds in the Border to Coast Pension Partnership, will offer invaluable insight as we strive to improve outcomes for our customers.”
