Paul Maynard the latest to take on the Minister for Pensions role

Following Laura Trott’s move to the Treasury, Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, has been named as the new pensions minister.

Maynard, who has been an MP since 6 May 2010, was named parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

From July 2019 to February 2020, he served as the Department of Transport’s Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, while also serving as the Ministry of Justice’s Parliamentary Under Secretary of State between May and July 2019.

Reacting to the appointment Nigel Peaple, Director of Policy & Advocacy at the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, said: “We congratulate Paul Maynard on his appointment as Minister for Pensions. We look forward to discussing with him our 5 Steps to Better Pensions, in particular, the need to set clear goals for adequate, fair, and affordable pensions, maintaining the State Pension’s value, and increasing automatic enrolment (AE) contributions to 12% over the next decade. Given the impending Autumn Statement, we will also be outlining our views on the support Government should provide to pension funds to attract investment into UK growth.”
